Since 2014, when Satya Nadella took over the charge as CEO, Microsoft began to adopt open source into its core business.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Microsoft Corporation<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 an American multinational company that started in 1975 by Bill Gates and Pual Allen, brought a revolution in Personal Computing space by launching their first Operating System\u00a0<strong>MS-DOS<\/strong>\u00a0in 1980 followed by\u00a0<strong>Windows<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Then rest is the history. Microsoft became the leader in computer software, consumer electronics and personal computers domain and it\u2019s founder\u00a0<strong>Bill Gates<\/strong>\u00a0remains the world&#8217;s richest man for almost 25 years.<\/p>\n<p>Throughout these years, Microsoft opposes the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_source_software\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>open-source software<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>paradigm \u2014 the paradigm of freely sharing computer source code. They focused on Enterprise Business model and sold Windows, Office suits, .NET framework, Surface and many more.<\/p>\n<p>When\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Satya_Nadella\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Satya Nadella<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>took over the role of CEO from Steve Balmer in 2014, he focuses on new market trends like cloud computing, embedded, and mobile computing technologies powered by open-source advances.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft open-sourced some of its premium software, including the .NET framework and Visual Studio Code.\u00a0<em>In contrast to Microsoft ideology, He invested a lot in open source technologies and completed notable acquisitions like purchasing Xamarin,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LinkedIn\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>LinkedIn<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0in 2016, then GitHub in 2018. And now GitHub owns NPM.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Today, when we talk about JavaScript developer community, most of the JavaScript developers writing code in\u00a0<strong>TypeScript<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Language<\/strong>(Superset of JavaScript) in\u00a0<strong>Visual Studio Code<\/strong> an Integrated.<\/p>\n<p>Development Environment (IDE) installing packages from\u00a0<strong>NPM<\/strong>\u00a0(Library Manager) and tracking their code via\u00a0<strong>GitHub<\/strong>\u00a0(Code Version software).<\/p>\n<p>Knowing the fact that all software mentioned above are owned by Microsoft, we can simply assert that Microsoft has slowly started maintaining and keep hold of the vibrant JavaScript developer community as a whole. The typescript was first made public in October 2012, after two years of internal development at Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>8 years later, today it has the capability to engulf almost JavaScript dev community. It follows a multi-paradigm \u2014 functional, object-oriented and imperative programming paradigms. It adds the latest updates from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/ECMAScript\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ECMAScript<\/a>. It offers the distributed version control and source code management (SCM) functionality of Git and gives free hosted accounts to all.<\/p>\n<p><em>According to the latest reports, as of January 2020, GitHub reports having over\u00a0<strong>40 million users<\/strong>, as I mentioned in the subtitle of this post, and more than\u00a0<strong>100 million repositories<\/strong>\u00a0including at least\u00a0<strong>28 million public repositories<\/strong>, making it the largest host of source code in the world.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>When the news broke saying Microsoft is planning to acquire GitHub. Major companies and groups were reluctant to store their private repositories on the platform. It was initially released on 12 January 2010; 10 years ago. Microsoft officials said, npm currently supports more than\u00a0<strong>1.3 million packages and 75 billion downloads a month<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft intends to always keep the npm registry available as open-source and free to developers and currently planning to integrate GitHub with NPM in order to serve the entire JavaScript developer community together.<\/p>\n<p>All the above software and tools together used, supported and maintained by<a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-next-tech.com\/mobile-apps\/5-best-cross-platform-mobile-app-development-tools\/\"> millions of JavaScript developers throughout the world<\/a>. And now when Microsoft is owning all these, we wish the tech giant to invest more and strengthen the complete community as a whole.<\/p>\n<p>Under CEO Nadella, Microsoft revised its mission statement to \u201cempower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more\u201d in comparison to founder Bill Gates\u2019s \u201ca PC on every desk and in every home, running Microsoft software\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft is now back in the business and one of the top contributors to the open-source business now. We know that organizations like Microsoft make an enormous impact on the developer communities all over the globe.
