{"id":26483,"date":"2020-08-31T11:17:50","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T05:47:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.the-next-tech.com\/?p=26483"},"modified":"2020-08-31T11:17:51","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T05:47:51","slug":"twitter-flags-republican-leaders-video-as-manipulated-for-altering-disabled-activists-words","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.the-next-tech.com\/security\/twitter-flags-republican-leaders-video-as-manipulated-for-altering-disabled-activists-words\/","title":{"rendered":"Twitter flags Republican leader\u2019s video as \u2018manipulated\u2019 for altering disabled activist\u2019s words"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Twitter flagged an inflammatory video by House Republican Whip Steve Scalise on Sunday for altering footage of a conversation between progressive activist Ady Barkan and Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p>The video is now labeled as \u201cmanipulated media\u201d in a tweet from Scalise, though remains online.<\/p>\n<p>The inflammatory movie pulls in out-of-context quotations from a variety of both Democrats and activists but seems to have crossed a line by changing Barkan&#8217;s words by some of the dialog about policing reform.<\/p>\n<p>Barkan, with ALS, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.the-next-tech.com\/business\/twitter-and-facebook-locked-the-trump-campaign-out-of-its-account-for-sharing-covid-19-misinformation\/\">talks using an assistive eye-tracking apparatus<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These aren&#8217;t my words. I&#8217;ve lost my capacity to talk, but maybe not my my ideas,&#8221; Barkan tweeted response, including&#8221;&#8230;You owe the whole disability community an apology&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">.<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SteveScalise?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">@SteveScalise<\/a>,<\/p>\n<p>These are not my words.<\/p>\n<p>I have lost my ability to speak, but not my agency or my thoughts.<\/p>\n<p>You and your team have doctored my words for your own political gain.<\/p>\n<p>Please remove this video immediately. Complete chaos.
