Frances Tiafoe will now face No. 9 seed Russian Andrey Rublev on Wednesday in the quarterfinals.

It's just the second time

in his career after 2019 Australian Open Tiafoe qualified for any major Grand Slam Tournament.

against Nadal was the biggest American man victory at the US Open since 2005, when James Blake defeated the then-World No. 2 Spaniard.

His parents emigrated from Sierra Leone, West Africa to the United States during the civil war of the 1990s. His father was a custodian at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in suburban Washington DC.

is the youngest American man who has made it this far at the US Open, since Andy Roddick in 2006. He is also the first American man to make it to the quarterfinals of the US Open since John Isner in 2018.
