Famous US Talk Show Host, Jerry Springer, Dies

Jerry Springer, a talkshow host and former mayor of Cincinnati dies at 79 at his home in Chicago. 

The Jerry Springer Show went on to launch in 1991 after he joined Cincinnati station WLWT-TV.

The Los Angeles Times called it an "oppressively self-important talk hour starring a Cincinnati news anchorman and former mayor"

The Jerry Springer Show was a ratings powerhouse. In 1998, the show's viewership peaked at 8 million viewers, surpassing The Oprah Winfrey Show at one point.

The Jerry Springer Show" ran for 27 years - with more than 4,000 episodes - before coming to an end in 2018.

Springer ran for the Democratic nomination as governor of Ohio in 1982 but came a distant third.

He was also a contestant on "Dancing With the Stars", "The Masked Singer" and was a host for a while of "America's Got Talent."
