Wimbledon 2023: Venus Williams Makes First-Round Exit
In her 24th Wimbledon appearance, Venus Williams suffered a first-round defeat on Monday following an early setback with a twisted knee.
The five time tournament champion Williams, was beaten in the first round by Elina Svitolina, 6-4, 6-3
Williams, a former No. 1 now ranked outside the top 500 after a series of injuries that limited her to 22 matches since the start of 2021.
When Venus Williams made her Wimbledon debut in 1997, Svitolina was just 2 years old. By the time Williams won her 1st Wimbledon in 2000, Svitolina was 5 years.
