Although websites can be a lot of work, they are essential to show who you are. Your customers will see them as the face of your franchise. No matter if you are a new business or an established brand, the main question is how do you create a great website.
Fortunately, I’ve been through it a few times. Here are some tips to help you get your website project done and running smoothly.
Although it may seem obvious to say that you must create a launch strategy, you’d be surprised at how few businesses make a plan and stick to it.
Scorpion was in the middle of a website design project when I joined Scorpion in July. It was an entirely new experience, with hundreds of pages and templates to design and implement.
Although the project was large and well-organized, it was still in its infancy. It needed some time to go live. Although your website may not contain hundreds of pages it is still the same process and planning.
To create a launch plan for our website and content teams, I collaborated with them. We also set benchmarks.

Here are some examples of benchmarks that we set:
While the launch plan is crucial, it is equally important to have a team invested in it to push the project forward and gain momentum for it to go live. A clear strategy and a plan helped me to pull together both the new content team I led as well as the web development team that had taken the project to this point.
One of Scorpion’s core businesses is technology and web management. The launch had to be clean and professional, ready to serve small business owners who are constantly searching for Scorpion.
A great way to speed up the process is to do an exercise to determine the minimum amount of work required to launch something. Digital marketing has the advantage that you can iterate on it and can make changes after it is life.
The MVP of the website was the goal. We had to come up with a plan. To speed up the process, we chose to launch the website with a few templates and a style template.
We agreed on the pages that needed to be created, and we set up a plan for getting there. We knew that we would continue to iterate on pages with high volumes in the future, and then improve the content as necessary.

Everyone must know what their roles are in a large project such as a website launch.
Two teams were responsible for the Scorpion launch. The content and website teams. We only needed to code and create content because the brand and theme were already in place.
I assigned content leads assignments for pages to be created. These were done in batches, starting with the corporate pages. Then we moved on to the verticals. Batches allowed us to focus on each page of the project, rather than trying to see the entire mountain at once.
Also, we had an excellent understanding of each other’s work. This helped the team find ways to help each other after they had completed their respective parts of the project.
For large projects such as a website launch, project management is crucial. We had one document that we used to track each page and link to the website once it was complete.
It is helpful to have project visibility among all the team members working on the project. This allows you to spot any lags. This can be a great way for everyone to know their role and what they contribute to the project.
Google sheet is a great tool for project management. However, you can also use it to access specialized tools such as Monday, Asana, or Jira if your company is already using them.

The following steps were taken to create the website:
It’s crucial to find ways for each team to work together without having to wait for tasks to be finished.
We created the content in Google Docs and shared it in our project management document. The web team would then see the new content document, create a new page with the content and post the URL to the page.
This allowed both the web and content teams to work side-by-side, rather than waiting for things to happen.
Below is an example template.

Corporate America has no deadlines. It is there to set a goal and, more importantly, to provide that adrenaline rush normally reserved for elite athletes.
I love it when there is a deadline so that you can set a work back schedule. You can set a deadline so you know when you will get it done.
You may be aware that it takes a few weeks to create a website, and that design can take several weeks once the content has been submitted. You will be able to determine when content must be submitted to design to meet that deadline by knowing the timeline.
It can also be enjoyable to work. It can be exhausting to manage large projects. It can be difficult to get your team together when there are so many things going on.
Having fun means that you get together with others and see progress. As a group, we met up frequently to have fun, laugh, and make the project as enjoyable as possible.

When your project is completed, celebrate. This could be as simple as a lunch at work or an activity with your team.
I enjoy being a little different with celebrating, and finding something that can be a tangible advantage to the team. But do what is best for your culture and the team you are in.
